Our hostel in Hervey Bay The next morning we hiked through the rain to the train station with our giant packs. Unfortunately, we had quite a long walk to the Mango Tourist Hostel on the other end as well. The hostel owner was a riot. He asked us how we planned to travel to Fraser Island and what we intended to do there, interjecting, “That’s unfortunate,” at each step as he told us how we’d gone wrong with our planning. Not sure what he thought we could to correct things at that point. According to him, the best and most economical way to see Fraser Island was by private yacht. Uh, yeah.
